I successfully realized the American dream. I built a dream house, married a beautiful wife, had three children and also Lee, our beloved dog. I had friends, parties and trips in our tiny country and around the world, a respectable job as a senior manager, a fantastic salary, a company car and a secretary. Undoubtedly, I could claim that I had accomplished many more successes.
Then, mid-life, when everything seemed just perfect, and I felt like a superstar in a NETFLIX series or in some telenovela, an empty pit began to grow in my heart, day by day and gave me no rest.
?What is the purpose? Where does life lead
I was thrown into a completely different reality. Not one I would have wished for myself. My life’s story collapsed like a tower of cards, however I could relax from the crazy race and learnt to derive pleasures from a lifestyle I did not know.
Andrew siman application, news editor for LinkedIn
My name is Hanan Haim, and this is my personal story which I started following Andrew Siman’s request, editor of LinkedIn News. He asked me to share my views regarding the changing world of work.
If you are wondering how the story of my life relates to the world of work today, it turns out that we all live more or less in the same story.
Until a year and a half ago we ran like crazy to find another job and to add a few more zeros to the bank account. We traveled around the globe and filled the house with thousands of items. We wanted to believe that we had a really happy life, however we did not genuinely feel that way. The emptiness began to fill many of our hearts.
Corona turned the world upside down, similarly to a dramatic turn in a movie’s plot, to a new stage in life. We learned to enjoy intimacy at home and to be thankful for moments of kindness with family and children. We learned to appreciate extended family and friends that we had missed so much as a result of the lockdowns that physically separated us After the initial shock and the months of loneliness, despair and fear, we recovered. Pfizer’s brilliant solution, a vaccine, enabled us to leave our houses.
Our contentment was short-lived. War and missiles were fired to the heart of the country brought us back to reality for a few days. Afterwards, the feeling that everything seemed to be freeing up returned
Today we have seemingly almost returned to our conduct in the period prior to the pandemic.
The question which arises is whether this is the entire picture, or whether there is an underlying layer of conduct to which we have no access?!
In the background, there are rumors of another lockdown, talk of the spread of an Indian mutation and the cessation of inspections of returnees from abroad is concerning.
How does all this relate to the world of work?
On one hand there is a sense of calm and business as usual but on the other hand, a large and significant question has permeated our safe world.
What is the force that actually drives and directs our lives?
Why is life changing shape all the time? This may be accidental and it may not. Where are we headed and what is the purpose?
Perhaps the answer is close to each one of us?
Inspection of all the life forms familiar to us indicates the presence of a force of nature that strives for perfection and balance. But we humans completely ignore this presence and suffer greatly from it.
If we live without the recognition that we are all dependent on each other and must maintain a balance between us, the chaos in which we live will grow. This trend can be seen in a variety of areas: politics, the economy, the social arena, the environment and more.
We seem to be committed to changing attitudes in all areas of our relationship: from interpersonal relationships to world-wide political relations: from hatred to mutual respect, appreciation, cooperation and mutual guarantee.
I do not think that changes in positions, workplaces or practice is the solution to our present situation. We are at the beginning of an era in which the purpose of our lives is to be revealed to us and the most important is to identify the main challenge – fixing the The connections between us! The understanding in which lives the essence of our lives and not all sorts of external illusions or the cultivation of a personal or group ego at each other’s expense.
Together with a search for solutions to cure the pandemic, we need to change our approach. Understand that the happiness and satisfaction we seek depends on healing our relationships with each other.
When this is achieved, when we can feel free and surrounded by human warmth, support and encouragement in the work environment, we can work together to advance the goals of the organization whose aims are to collaborate and to promote its businesses and businesses relationships . Together we can bring about significant change from an individual level to the global level.
